Hey everyone! Today I am here with Giuseppe, a student at Unger Academy who wants to tell us about his experience with our training program. Hi Giuseppe, how are you doing?
Giuseppe
Hey, I'm fine, thank you.
Chelsi
I'm very happy that you are here. First of all, I’d like to ask you to tell us a little bit about yourself, what do you do for a job and in life?
Who is Giuseppe and how did his journey in the world of trading begin?
Giuseppe
Yes, so I do two things. First, I'm a consultant and second, I do something that very few people know about: and that's Family Constellations. So, I'm a family constellator, even if that doesn’t say much about what that means, it's basically about personal growth. So, I hold personal growth courses and individual sessions that are all about personal growth, on any issue that has its origin in the family system. And my second job is being a trader, which has become my first job from a business standpoint for a few years now. The other is my passion, but from a business perspective it has become almost a hobby.

Very nice. Okay, what problems did you have before you joined our program?
Giuseppe
So, let's say I came from another school that merged with Unger Academy, called Algoritmica, and I had been following them for a couple of years. In fact, I switched to Unger Academy because the coaches, the teachers had merged with Unger Academy.
Chelsi
Let's say we are a single company unified now....
Giuseppe
A family, a group, to be exact. Let's say that my problem was that I had invested so much, from an economic standpoint, as I gained experience. And inside Algoritmica, I had a series of systems, of programs that no longer met my needs in terms of diversification of my investments. So, in the last period before the merger, I was looking for different systems to diversify and study new things, although it was becoming more and more difficult to find strategies that were suitable for the systems that I knew and that I had learned with Algoritmica.
Why did he choose our program among the many available in the market?
Chelsi
Hey, thank you. And why did you choose just our program and not another program out there?
Giuseppe
So, initially I studied discretionary trading in different schools other than Unger Academy. It was first discretionary, then mechanical, but not automated, and then I turned to Algoritmica and another school as well. At the latter school I had difficulty with the method, the software, which was pretty hostile. And when I chose... The choice was sort of a forced choice, in the sense that I was comfortable with Algoritmica and then entered in Unger Academy. The advantage that I found in the systems, it's a different philosophy than the one I knew, in some ways it's simpler and easier to apply. And so, it's an approach that has enriched me as a trader, both as a mindset and also as an enrichment of the strategies that I had been looking for in the previous period.
What has helped him the most in the program?
Chelsi
Great! Is there anything in particular in our program that really helped you?
Giuseppe
Yes, several things. First, I was used to very useful online lectures where there was interaction, but then I had to watch them over and over again. The fact that I have a training already recorded really helps me a lot. I can watch it in my own time and at my own pace. I can even repeat it a few times to eliminate any doubts I have, because it's unidirectional, so I listen to the lessons, and then I can repeat them, go more into detail and resolve any doubts that I have with the coaches. So, another system and the fact that I also have a system where... I'm not a programmer, I learned to manage the systems in the sense that there is already a basic software, lines of code, to change them but not to create them. And the way that they are explained instead inside Unger Academy has opened up a world of possibilities that I really hadn't seen before and I didn’t know about.

And now you feel really comfortable....
Giuseppe
Well, I’ve really seen a lot of them. So many codes explained in the theoretical part, but also already created codes that already have instructions on how to use them, so it’s much easier to already have a base that allows me to look for strategies and find the most appropriate inputs. And also the fact that I have found other software, software that integrates trading, like Titan or like now the new Strategy Checker. Software that is not specifically focused on trading, but helps to decide in advance which strategies I should bet on and which ones I should exclude. So, an important help in deciding how to trade, definitely. Not only do I apply the strategies in a more or less simple way, namely I have a strategy and I apply it, but I also know how many contracts I have with one and how many contracts I have with the other. The fact that special software is offered as a service has made trading so much easier for me.
The results he has achieved
Chelsi
Fantastic! What results did you get after combining what you learned in the program with what you studied in the different modules over the years? What results did you get?
Giuseppe
So, in a more linear way I’ve found that my trend also in terms of percentage of return is 30% on average, and I have done that pretty much every year, with a couple of exceptions, including the last year where I earned 50%, my average is 30%. The advantage of the Unger Academy school is that with the software that I was talking about earlier, I can more easily choose strategies that make the sum of the trading portfolio, and the trades that I make, more harmonious, and therefore allow me to see a sum of gains where the drawdowns or losses are lower. So, I have a greater harmony and therefore fewer swings in the negative periods. Also, and especially from a psychological standpoint, I feel calmer when I trade, because whereas before it was more the money that I invested in learning to trade in courses or in what I needed to live, now it's more the capital that stays in the account and therefore it grows in a way that I wouldn’t call exponential but it definitely grows more. And so knowing that I can develop strategies also helps me feel a lot more comfortable.

Great. How has your life changed since you achieved these results? Not only economically, but also in terms of awareness.
Giuseppe
On the one hand, I feel calmer and more relaxed, both in a purely economic perspective, and also in an activity that I really enjoy so much. The fact that I can study basically, let’s say, a sort of statistics… Well, it actually is applied statistics. The fact that I can trade and especially that I can study this variety of concepts and codes really makes my life more fulfilling because I really enjoy studying, not only to make money, but also to discover new strategies and find satisfaction, first emotionally and then later materially. So, it really enriches me a lot. And, in fact, there are so many different courses, some I’ve already taken, some I have yet to take. The fact that I can enrich my knowledge really stimulates me. I feel like a kind of... At the level of sort of... Right now, I feel like I am at the level of a freshman, even though it’s been a few years since I started in 2014, and in 2016 I started with the systematic field, I still have a lot to learn and a lot to specialize. And the different courses that are available, the different types, they all allow me to have a lot of material to deal with in my studies.

Oh yes, absolutely! Where do you think you would be now if you had not chosen our program?
Giuseppe
As I said before, somehow, I would still be there with a really limited number of codes and I would still be looking, as I did then, for areas to study, so I would be racking my brain and taking test after test after test to find something. Instead, I just ... Worlds opened up to me, opportunities opened up, a different mindset allowed me to look where I couldn't even imagine there could be trading opportunities before. I wouldn’t say I'd go around in circles, but I was spending a lot of time looking for something that required a lot of energy, a lot of attention, and then I realized it wasn't getting me anywhere, so I backed off and let go. Now it's very different.
Giuseppe's advice to those who want to become traders
Chelsi
Great. So, Giuseppe, in closing, I’d like to ask you what you would say to those who are watching this interview and maybe are still undecided about whether or not to join the program?
Giuseppe
Well, in general doing and studying trading is a very different job. You have to get into the mindset of thinking and putting yourself in a new mindset. If it's done professionally, and I think the Unger Academy teaches a professional approach, and if those who get involved take the time to study, then there are a lot of opportunities. For one thing, if you like the math and research, as I do, there are a lot of opportunities here. On the other hand, if you apply it correctly, in my experience, and I've been trading now for nine years and counting, it really allows 1) financial satisfaction and 2) in my case, I really had to watch my spending in the beginning, to free up so much and you realize that you are freeing up energy. I’ve freed up so much energy that I can do a lot more now too. And I think, as I said, there are different schools. I've seen many schools, some are more professional, some less, but I think Unger Academy is a good summary of the different aspects, so in my case I think I made a very good investment. I got a very good return from the money I spent.
