I am an electronics engineer, I own an IT company, and for the past two years I’ve become passionate about systematic trading.
From Discretionary Trading to Systematic Trading
My relationship with trading before I started was non-existent because I didn’t know anything about it. I discovered it thanks to my son, who is a discretionary trader and whom I’m trying to steer toward algorithmic trading. He’s the one who got me passionate about this discipline, so I discovered it thanks to him.
I didn’t even know what trading was, just something you see on Facebook, but nothing else.
I got into it because they didn’t make it look easy. They didn’t say, “Look, it’s a simple method, you’ll make a ton of money,” but rather that to get results, you have to work and you have to work methodically.
So, these two things: the seriousness of the approach, not saying, “Make 200,000 euros in a month with 1,000 euros,” and also the method, because I’m an engineer, and so I like working with a method.
+160% in Two Years, but Also Some Difficult Moments
In two years, I made 160%, which is a good result in my opinion, and I’m very happy, but alongside these good results, there were also moments of difficulty.
I overcame them by going back to the method, because what happened? With the method, I got good results.
Then I felt, let’s say, clever, which I’m not, and I started to deviate from the method.
I started doing a bit of discretionary trading myself, and I even had some good results.
Then I took some really hard hits. I got hurt pretty badly, and from there, I started over. After the fall, I got back up.
The Lesson: In Automated Trading, You Have to Follow the Method
Automated trading doesn’t mean you automatically get results. You have to use your head, but you have to follow the method.
And then it works. At least, it worked for me.
A World That Goes Beyond Financial Results
I discovered a very fascinating world because it’s a world that goes beyond the money, which is, for heaven’s sake, a nice thing. It allows me to apply everything I know, everything I studied, from mathematics to statistics and even the software side, to something that I’m passionate about and that I enjoy.
And then the markets are really always so different. I mean, it’s not just one thing. You can do so many things. It’s really great.
