I can learn it on my own!
This is something that I sometimes listen to from some aspiring students, so they claim they don’t need any education because they can learn what I’m supposed to teach, on their own, just from the markets.
Which is fine!
Somehow I did it myself, but not really, because at the very start, I had the right guidance and tips from my friend Domenico Foti.
Without his experience and his tips, I would probably have had some hard time and maybe today I would not be here with the Unger Method™ which is what I trade with.
What is the risk of learning on your own?
But okay… now let’s imagine you want to go to Paris.
You live in Milan and you want to go to Paris by car.
Okay… so normally you sit in the car, you turn on your navigation tool or you look at some maps, or you listen to the advice of a colleague who happens to go to Paris every weekend because his family is there, and you go to Paris.
But no, you don’t want to use any of these means!
You just want to try to sit in your car and go and reach Paris.
So you leave Milan and after a while, you are in Bologna and you know that’s the other way.
So you go back to Milan, you keep on driving and you are in Venice.
Again you know that Venice is to the east, but you have to go to the west.
So you go back and you drive… you drive… after a long while maybe you reach Paris.
Oh… now you are in Paris!
Will you get to what your goal is?
The problem is that the trip took too much time and you have no longer time left in your holidays to visit Paris.
So you have to drive back home, now you know the way to go and you will drive back.
So your final goal to visit Paris vanished.
You built up a lot of experience, you know many new places, wonderful places, places where you can eat great food, places you would avoid in the future, you will suggest people avoid.
You built a lot of experience and this is great, but your ultimate goal to visit Paris… that was not achieved, that was gone.
So somehow your path to becoming a profitable trader can be similar to your trip to Paris.
If it takes too long, you might end up having no longer time.
I don’t mean a dramatic solution, I just mean that you would not have enough time or the deserved time to enjoy all the skills that you put into your infrastructure of trading, because you wasted the most important resource we have: time!
In conclusion
Time does not come back.
So if you can spare some time in getting to your ultimate goal, then you would have a great advantage and you save time obviously in getting the right tips from those who already went through their way, those who already have been to Paris, they can tell you which way to go.
